Mary Hoehling (1914–2004)

Mary Hoehling's Thaddeus Lowe: America's One-Man Air Corps examines the life of professor Thaddeus Sobieski Constantine Lowe, chief aeronaut of the Union Army Balloon Corps and inventor. Lowe's story makes for an entertaining read and Hoehling's fictionalized account is sure to capture the imagination of young history buffs. That said, Hoehling occasionally alters dates or events, such as the impact of Edgar Allen Poe's "Balloon-Hoax" on a young Lowe. These alterations and the fictionalized version of parts of Lowe's life, while interesting and entertaining, move this volume more into the realm of historical fiction than history proper.… (lisätietoja)
