This speech is historically important to the USA, and very persuasive. If I remember correctly from my history classes, this speech was meant to convince some of the loyalist colonists to turn over to the revolutionary side. I don't remember if it did or not, but I do know that a lot of colonists back then were still hoping for peace with Great Britain. Patrick Henry mentions this in the speech and calls it laughable.
