This is a fun and easy-to-read book. It is written as an autobiography, with an introduction to each chapter written by the co-writer (ghost writer, except he is very corporeal).

The story told here is pretty different than the one in the movie. I knew it was different but I think it was more different than I expected. Texas Western was one of the few integrated schools & Haskins took advantage of this market inefficiency to bring in his players.

The big impact was that after Texas Western won the championship the southern schools starting bringing in black players. Of course, there were great black players in college basketball in the rest of the country, even though the all-black starting lineups were still off in the future.

I'm reading a book now about Perry Wallace, who was the first black player in the SEC. His first year was 1968.

Glory Road is a true story about a college basketball coach who led the first all black starting lineup to win a National Championship. Don Haskins is the coach telling his story of the championship season during the Civil Rights Movement. I love the way this book is written because it is fast-paced just as if you were there as the story is being told. The story is mostly based in El Paso, Texas, where Don Haskins coaching career at Texas Western College became history. During this time, blacks were separated from whites and encouraged not to do things together. This story shows the true meaning of teamwork and overcoming adversity. Glory Road is a great book for people of all ages, because it is a example of how people of all races can play together as one team and be winners.… (lisätietoja)

I have only read two hundred and fifty pages of this book but so far this book may be one of the best books that i have read. This is one of the best books that i have ever read because it is about basketball and since it is i can relate so much to it. This book is about the life of coach Don Haskins who coached at many scools but he is known for winning the 1966 NCAA basketball championship coaching the Texas Western Minors. He is known for this game because he was the first coach to start five black players in the chaampionship and win. By doing this he broke the color barrier ,mainly for colleges in the south, but he gave many black players a chance to get a college education and play basketball. As said in the book he " helpeed one team triumph against the odds and change America forver."… (lisätietoja)
