This could have been so much better. It's a fascinating premise, but it's disjointed and really hard to follow with a ton of characters that you just don't connect with. You can see a spark of likability, but that's all you get.
Both monster story and family drama, this debut novel embraces the Weird, fitting for its Lovecraft references, and its perfect pacing makes it positively unputdownable.

Objectively, this is a really good book.
Personally, I didn't like it.
It's a great horror story with likeable and realistic characters that make you feel, especially the monsters. Truly, the monsters are the stars of the story. And the city they populate is the one always found on the edges of the human mind.
