(show)  Author Event - Pulitzer Prize winner Louise Glück at UC Davis Nelson Gallery Louise Glück, former poet laureate and winner of the Pulitzer Prize, will read in celebration of " Faithful and Virtuous Night," winner of the 2014 National Book Award. The event takes place at the University of California, Davis in their Nelson Gallery in Nelson Hall. The Avid Reader will be on hand to sell hardcover copies of Glück's newest poetry collection, "Faithful and Virtuous Night," as well as several other of Glück's works, including "Poems 1962-2012" (available in both hardcover and paperback), "Village Life," "Averno," "Vita nova," "Proofs and theories" and "Wild Iris."

They welcome new members and will get you on the discussion list for the next meeting. From Linda~ On August 14 and 28, we'll be discussing Louise Glück's Wild Iris. We'll meet as usual from 5:00-6:30 on those two dates. Our September book, if all goes well, is Rita Dove's Sonata Mullatica. For August 14, please pick a poem from the book that you would like to read aloud and discuss. If you don't have time to do this, please come anyway. See you in a couple of weeks, Linda

She attended Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University. Her first book of poetry, Firstborn, appeared in 1968. She's considered by many to be one of America's most talented contemporary poets. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1993 for her collection The Wild Iris. She teaches at Yale University, where she is the Rosencranz Writer-in-Residence.  | |
