Colin gee

Opening Moves is the first volume of the Red Gambit series. The scenario: war breaks out between the Soviet Union and the Western Allies in the summer of 1945. That’s all the plot description I’ll give – no spoilers here!
Gee writes well. There are some of the usual typos, misspellings and editing errors usually found in self-published books, but the story works so well, it doesn’t bother the reader.
Gee has an excellent knowledge of history. For example, discussing an RAF squadron, he knows that this was actually an Australian-manned squadron attached to the RAF. His knowledge of weapons, from small arms to aircraft, is encyclopedic. There are no disconcerting inaccuracies to distract from the story.
Another thing that I like about this series is its length. There are five volumes so far. This volume is almost 800 pages, and it only covers the first week of the war. There’s a lot more to look forward to.
