This book details the evolution of welfare from the Victorian Poor Law, through the Liberal reforms and the Beveridge Report up to the modern age and what the future holds for the welfare state in Britain. A must read for anyone studying social policy and social welfare.
Still useful introduction to the growth in state responsibility for welfare from the 1600's
