This is a book about Big Bang cosmology, solar system formation, and human evolution for young children. It's hard to imagine that such a thing could succeed, but it does. The main text is a repetitive, singsongy, catchy rhyme in the spirit of the traditional "house that Jack built" poem. The rhyme is really fun to read aloud, and a reasonably factual account of the scientific "creation story" accompanied by quirky, brightly colored graphics, with text incorporated into the artwork traveling in topsy-turvy directions, so it's a success for my preschooler.… (lisätietoja)
Not really to my taste, I thought the story was a bit predictable and I just didn't connect with the protagonist. Might be a good suggestion for reluctant readers as there's plenty of action and it's set in Denver.
The book was originally published in 2002, and refers to a lot of prospective experiments planned for 2002-2007. The audio version produced in 2010 hadn't been updated to reflect the results of any of those experiments, or anything else subsequent to 2002 for that matter. That meant it felt really out of date.
