Felix E. Feist (1910–1965)

The story of Cardinal Josef Mindzhenty, a Roman Catholic cardinal from Hungary who spoke out against both the Nazi occupation of his country during World War II and the Communist regime that replaced it after the war. Mindzhenty was arrested, tortured and eventually released, but was persecuted to the extent that he wound up taking refuge in the US Embassy in Budapest for many years, still acting as a spokesman for the Hungarians who wanted the Russian occupation forces and their Hungarian collaborators out of the country. Cobb is very good as a cop trying to cover up his girlfriend's (Wyatt's) semi-accidental killing of her husband. Unfortunately, Cobb's brother--and fellow detective--Dall is too diligent in the murder investigation, given it's his first case. He's an attractive screen personality, but it's obviously a performance and lacks the subtlety of Cobb's performance. Wyatt is attractive but a little overwrought at times. Wells is quite good in a brief appearance as a suspect in a seemingly related crime. Overall, quite an effective film with great San Francisco locations, including a finale at Fort Point.… (lisätietoja)
