Neryl East

Thank goodness that I did not waste my money purchasing this book. Being written by Neryl East in a first person voice that relates to Rod Oxley not East seems odd. The standard of writing is poor with many grammatical errors. If the book had been edited to cut out some of the repetitive statements it would have been much shorter. The book's subject matter with its elements of sex, scandal, politics and corruption has the ingredients of a very readable tale unfortunately the author and Oxley created a flop.

In this book former Wollongong Council General Manager, Rod Oxley,sets out his recollections of the ICAC raid, investigations and ensuing case against Wollongong Council offficers, councillors and local identities. Oxley, who was found to "have engaged in various forms of corrupt conduct between 2004 and 2007", uses this book as a vehicle to firstly detail his own personal qualities and excellent credentials and then to detail the inadequacies of and refute the findings of ICAC.

What I found interesting was that on page 98 Oxley indicated that, with the benefit of hindsight, he would have answered some questions of the commission differently. On page 119 Oxley states "you also don't want to incriminate yourself by making responses that might turn out to be detrimental to you."
