Began writing children's books after searching for books to read to his son. His popular "magic" stories are heavily influenced by the works of E. Nesbit.

If the old toy soldier hadn't come to life, Roger would never have discovered the magic.

And that would never have happened if he and his sister, Ann, hadn't been sent to stay with their bossy cousins for the summer. And that wouldn't have happened at all if their father hadn't gotten sick and gone into the hospital.

But all of that did happen, and now Roger, his sister, and their cousins find themselves in a bygone world of chivalry and knighthood, of Robin Hood and Ivanhoe. In this knightly realm they can make a difference--and perhaps even save the person they most need to save--if only they are smart and brave enough, if only they are true to their hearts.… (lisätietoja)

When wishing for magic, it's hard not to wish for too much.

Soon the children find themselves cavorting with mermaids, outwitting pirates, and--with the help of a cranky old turtle--granting a little magical help to the one person who needs it most.… (lisätietoja)

Somehow I missed Edward Eager in my childhood sprint through classic fantasy. There are some dated elements, but nothing that endangers the story or would make me hesitate to give it a child today.

A fun and silly romp about children and magic, very much indebted to Edith Nesbit.

Review from my daughter, age 9.
“I liked Half-Magic. I don’t think it’s a good read aloud but good to read yourself. It has an interesting plot twist. If you like magic, funniness, or unusual things that happen you’ll like Half-Magic.”
