The author presents a historical view of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting experiences with war tax resistance from earliest days through the American Revolution.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting members considered the war tax issue many times from 1681 to 1800, as a religious concern based on the Friends' Peace testimony. This pamphlet raises the considerations of Friends regarding the payment of war taxes, and presents the history of the evolution of the Peace testimony and of the concerns of Friends on both sides of the issue. This is as compelling and urgent a question for Friends today as it was for Friends of the 18th century.
