The book is written by current and former Giants greats who were lucky enough to be coached by Tom Coughlin. Michael Strahan, now Hall of Fame linebacker, narrates the beginning of the book, and he has nothing but respect for his former coach. He told of inspiring things he would say to the team, and seemingly tedious things he would make the team do at practice. However, Michael credits these little things with bringing the Lombardi Trophy to New York. He writes that if it wasn't for that one last drill or those few extra sprints, they may have not been as successful as they were. By simply reading this book of passion and hard work, I learned more about what it takes to be successful, and that hard work is not optional. This is not just a lesson for football or sports, this is a lesson for everything you do in life.
Eli Manning, two-time super bowl champion quarterback for the Giants, had a lot to say about his then-current coach. To Eli, he was a voice of guidance, a role model, and a father. Eli's relationship with his coach was truly that of a father and son. Coughlin not only taught Eli the value of hard work, he provided him the tools to teach it to the rest of his teammates, both through words of wisdom and, most importantly, through example. Eli put 110 percent into everything he did because he didn't want to disappoint himself, and he didn't want to disappoint his Coach. Tom Coughlin displayed all the trust he had in Eli, giving him control of the offense in only his second year. Eli Manning wrote that Tom Coughin allowed him to grow as a player, but also as a player. By teaching him the true value of hard work, Eli was able to be a perfect model for his own kids! Eli had a special connection with Tom Coughlin, it was the reason for their success, it was something beyond football, it was something special.
If you have not read this book yet, I do not know what you are waiting for. You do not have to be a Giants fan to enjoy this book. You do not have to be a football fan either. This is not a book about football. It is about hard work, passion, and leadership. It is about a underdog. A group of men defying the odds against a seemingly unbeatable force. The New York Giants defeated the goliath that was Tom Brady and the 17-0 New England Patriots not because of luck. It was because they believed in themselves. It is because they trusted that the amount of work they put in would not go unnoticed. It is because they put there trust in a man who had shown just as much respect and trust to them. It is because of Tom Coughlin.… (lisätietoja)
