jäsenellä T. Cooper on 6 aiempaa tapahtumaa. (show) T Cooper signs REAL MAN ADVENTURES Description A few years ago, the novelist T Cooper wrote his parents a letter telling them he “wasn’t their daughter anymore.” And that was the “good news.” Real Man Adventures is Cooper’s brash, wildly inventive, and often comic exploration of the paradoxes and pleasures of masculinity. He takes us through his transition into identifying as male, and how he went on to marry his wife and become an adoring stepfather of two children. Alternately bemused and exasperated when he feels compelled to explain all this, Cooper never loses his sense of humor. “Ten Things People Assume I Understand About Women But Actually Don’t,” reads one chapter title, while another proffers: “Sometimes I Think the Whole of Modern History Can Be Explained by Testosterone.”
A brilliant collage of letters, essays, interviews (with his brother, with his wife, with the parents of other transgender children), artwork, and sharp evocations of difficult conversations with old friends and puzzled bureaucrats, Real Man Adventures will forever change what you think about what it means to be a man. T COOPER PRESENTS HIS MEMOIR REAL MAN ADVENTURES with special guest CLAY AIKEN In February 2011, The Believer published an essay by T Cooper called “So There’s This Man,” in which Cooper wrote about his experience telling his parents he wasn’t their daughter anymore. And that was the good news. The essay discussed his female-to-male transition, and all the assumptions (by others) and fears (of Cooper’s own) that accompanied that transition. The essay was honest and widely admired, and inspired T Cooper’s book, Real Man Adventures, which is at once groundbreaking, candid, very funny, occasionally sad, beautifully written and profoundly illuminating.Join us as T Cooper discusses his memoir. Booksigning to follow.

Tall Tales and Real Man Adventures! Amy Ray, T Cooper, & Scott Turner Schofield at the Star Bar One Night Only! A DECADE IN THE MAKING Amy Ray, T Cooper, & Scott Turner Schofield REUNITED--and it feels so good... Join us for a winter blowout extravaganza on Saturday, December 15 at Star Bar Atlanta, 7 PM In celebration of T Cooper's latest book, " Real Man Adventures" (McSweeney's), and for the third time in a decade, rockstar Amy Ray, author T Cooper and king of performance Scott Turner Schofield will join together on stage for one wild night of live music, words and perfomance (sponsored by Charis Books and Charis Circle). Things that very well might come up on this special night: gender, masculinity, femininity, pit bulls, French people, the artist's life, Barack Obama, having a large penis, having no penis, Great White sharks, Hanukkah, Jesus, songwriting, The Real Housewives (of Atlanta, New York, Beverly Hills--no others), and much, much more--including audience questions addressed by the three performers. Amy Ray has been making her solo music in between Indigo Girls' records and gigs for the past 12 years. She started an indie label, Daemon Records in 1989. After releasing over 40 records by her favorite artist, in 2000 she decided to venture into making her own music, influenced by punk, rock, and Appalachian music. Ray took writing cues and musical inspiration from many of the artists on her label and bands she had met through the underground community. Her first record Stag featured her partnership with punk icons, The Butchies, along with The Rockateens and Joan Jett. Her second release Prom, brought Jody Bleyle, Kate Schellenbach, Donna Dresch, and 1945 into the fold. On her last solo release, Didn't It Feel Kinder, Ray teamed up with producer Greg Griffith (Vitapup, Le Tigre, The Butchies) and released what was considered an evolution in her musical life. With newest record, Lung of Love, Amy Ray is back with Greg Griffith, along with The Butchies, and keyboard player, Julie Wolf. This newest CD is as energetic as her first release Stag, but has the maturity and musical diversity that reflects her long tenure in the musical community. Scott Turner Schofield started his performance career at Charis Books and More in 2001, and he thanks the feminists in his life - especially Amy Ray - for his success. He has made a career of performance art, even emceeing, and theater, TV, and film acting that has taken him all over the world - keeping in close touch with T Cooper all along the way. He currently resides in France, where he acts with the National Theatre. Check outwww.Scott-T-Schofield.com to find out more.
