I usually start off with something very positive so let me say I enjoyed the book. The only thing I didn't like was the first person point of view. I think I would have liked it in third person, but that is a personal preference. The story is of a young boy who is living in an abusive situation. He tries to stay hidden so he won't be in the way. He hears his parents constantly arguing about money, about the father drinking, and finally about wishing they'd never had him. I felt so sorry for him because I've seen kids like this come through my classes. They are so broken. All they want is for someone to tell them they are loved. The boy wakes up in the forest. He doesn't know how he got there. He ends up in another world where he goes through 3 trials. When he completes them he is told he can stay forever. However, he is shown another path he might want to explore. Will he take it? If he does what will he find? What is truth and reality? What is fantasy? I definitely recommend this book.
