Excellent biography of Olympian/actor/businessman Herman Brix/Bruce Bennett. He was a silver medalist in the 1928 Olympics for shotput. As Herman Brix, he played in a Tarzan film that was essentially frozen out by MGM's Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan. He excelled in numerous serials but couldn't advance in parts because he was associated with the Tarzan role. Changing his name to Bruce Bennett, he excelled in films like Sahara, Mildred Pierce, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Dart Passage, and The Man I Love. The author did a great job of letting the reader get to know this modest man who was very reserved and essentially wanted to do his best to provide for his family. There were 2 errors in book: page 71 says Bogart's High Sierra character was named Ray Earle when it was Roy Earle and on page 107 Katharine Hepburn's name is spelled as Katherine. Overall, this is an excellent book with many great photos and a look at a man who had good, decent principles.… (lisätietoja)

About half the book is focused on Pendleton's wrestling career (he was a silver medalist in the 1920 Olympics). The other half goes over his film career but not in the detail I would have liked. The author indicates that Pendleton was robbed of the gold medal but doesn't really explain why. There were some nice photos and a good filmography. A quick read.at 113 pages counting the filmography.

This is a book about what it takes to be successful, from start to finish. It provides a priceless road map for success that anyone can understand and follow. I learned a lot of these lessons from my time in the U.S. Army, but I thoroughly enjoyed each topic developed with extensive examples from the world of amateur and professional sport, including sports other than wrestling. The author also uses examples from tennis, golf, bodybuilding, basketball, football and baseball to illustrate key points.

If I could recommend one book to be required reading for all children and young adults, this would be THE book.
