A beautiful memoir of family and food across countries and time! I greatly enjoyed the included recipes and look forward to trying some of them while thinking of the context behind their inclusion.

The author's family came to the U.S. from Argentina when she was a small child. They settled in Pittsburg where her father practiced medicine as a cardilogist. Because they owned houses and several cattle ranches in Argentina they made frequent trips back and forth during the 40 plus years the book covers.

I enjoyed the book and the recipes. The first part of the book went into great detail but the latter half seemed a bit rushed. Overall a very interesting story and looking forward to trying some of the recipes.

One of my favorite genres of books to read are those that involve food. This book is a delightfully engaging and entertaining look at the stories that are shared around a dining table, which is what "sobremesa" means. There are veins of magical realism, love, and adventure throughout this coming-of-age story which enchant the reader and keep you coming back for more. Delicious!
