Kate Bryan

Bright Stars by Kate Bryan is an interesting look at artists who died young, under roughly 40 years of age. We learn a bit about the artist and their personal world.

This is an inclusive group, though in the introduction Bryan mentions even more names that she would have liked to include. But there has to be a limit or such a project can get out of hand. The list she mentions in the intro includes at least one of the names "researched" by another reader for possible inclusion. Like that reader says, part of the strength of this book is piquing the interest in the reader to look into other artists and/or styles.

I would recommend this to both the general reader with an interest in art as well as those more knowledgeable in the subject. I like books like this because even if I know some of the information it is nice to have things grouped in various ways, the bringing together of these artists will create a slightly different perspective than when first encountering them in an art history book or a museum exhibit.
