Witch and Cat (and all of the other animals they interact with) have a variety of adventures together in the nine mini-stories contained in this pleasant beginning reader from the Netherlands. From Witch's overflowing bubble bath to Sheep's raid on Witch's cabbages, from Witch's tears while making onion soup to her pleasure while ice skating with Cat, the stories here are indeed very sweet...

Originally published in Dutch as Een lieve heks, this beginning reader is my first encounter with the work of author and illustrator Corinne Brouwers, and it appears to be the only one of her books translated into English. Although I wouldn't say it was a terribly impressive book, I did find it (appropriately enough, given the title) very sweet, and I appreciated the interactions between Witch and Cat. I particularly liked the story in which it is Witch who gets stuck up a tree, and must be rescued, as the role reversal was rather charming. The artwork has a humorous, cartoon-like style that works well with the tales. Recommended to beginning readers who enjoy stories of witches and/or cats.… (lisätietoja)
