This was a good biography of an interesting lady.

> MAGNIFIQUE BIOGRAPHIE D'HENRI LE SAUX. — L'auteure a mené un minutieux et long travail d'investigation, livrant un ouvrage plein de détails et de références, de témoignages, d'extraits de lettres et d'écrits du père Le Saux ou de ceux qui l'ont côtoyé.
Il en résulte une oeuvre qui se lit comme un roman historique, de voyage et initiatique, en partant de la Bretagne profonde du début du 20èe siècle, les années de guerres vues de l'intérieur des régiments français (tout en étant moine, il fut incorporé dans l'Armée), l'arrivée en Inde, son adaptation, ses rencontres, ses voyages.
A travers ses découvertes qui vont ébranler sa foi, le rendre bien différent de ses pairs, parfois incompris aussi, il peut tour à tour faire sourire, toucher, interpeller, agacer.
Il mena une existence exceptionnelle et reste certainement l'un des deux plus grands maîtres français du Vedanta avec Swami Vijayananda. Un livre passionnant et vraiment accessible au pus grand nombre, dû à l'immense talent de Madame Du Boulay.
Il n'a en fait qu'un seul défaut, celui d'être vendu à un tarif bien supérieur à celui d'autres publications du même format. Les éditions du Cerf devraient peut-être y songer. (Daniel ROBERT)

The best thing that can be said about this book, is that we have come a long way from there. The story of Desmond Tutu is told in an incredibly anodyne fashion: we are made aware that Apartheid South Africa is 'naughty' but we do not really see the struggle of the black man to obtain freedom. This work only really flickers into any form of life with the direct quotes and then, really only when Tutu's own words shine in the darkness. A newer biography will have to be purchased.
Abhishiktananda was the name taken by the French Benedictine monk Henri le Saux, whose religious experience in India led him to become a bridge between Hindu and Christian spirituality.
Born in Saint Briac, Brittany on August 30, 1910, he seemed destined for a religious life and entered 'minor seminary' at the age of 11, becoming a Benedictine novice in 1930.
He left France for India in the summer of 1948, never to return to France despite his affection for his homeland. He became immersed in the atmosphere of India, in particular the Hindu perspective of Advaita. He founded an ashram and religious community, Shantivanam, in 1950 and became Swami Abhishiktananda following his initiation into sannyasa. In his latter years though, he found himself very drawn to religious experience within solitude, spending much time in the hermit caves at Arunachala. But at no point did he disavow his Christianity, and he celebrated Mass until virtually the end of his life.
He died on December 7, 1973 at Indore nursing home, weakened by a myocardial infarction that summer, after several years in which he had lived virtually as a hermit.… (lisätietoja)
