Sarah Shourd will speak about and sign her new book, A Sliver of Light, on Monday, April 7th at 7:30pm.
About the book: In summer 2009, Shane Bauer, Joshua Fattal, and Sarah Shourd were hiking in Iraqi Kurdistan when they unknowingly crossed into Iran and were captured by a border patrol. Accused of espionage, the three Americans found themselves in Tehran's Evin Prison, where they discovered that pooling their strength of will and relying on each other were the only ways they could survive. In A Sliver of Light, "the hikers" tell their side of the story. Told through an interweaving of the authors' three voices, here is a rare glimpse inside Iran and a timeless portrayal of hardship and hope.
Vouchers to attend are $5 and are good for $5 off the author’s featured book or a purchase the day of the event. Vouchers can be purchased in advance, over the phone, or at the door. Readers Guild Members can reserve seats for any in-store event.

The JCCSF presents SHANE BAUER, JOSH FATTAL & SARA SHOURD
A Sliver of Light: Three Americans Imprisoned in IranShane Bauer, Sarah Shourd, and Josh Fattal In July 2009, American hikers Sarah Shourd, Shane Bauer, and Josh Fattal were arrested by border guards for unknowingly crossing over to Iran from Iraqi Kurdistan. Detained, accused of espionage, and held in Tehran’s infamous Evin Prison, their surreal and traumatic ordeal reads like the stuff of Kafka. Over the next two years their imprisonment made international headlines and became a major point of contention in diplomacy between the United States and Iran. Told in a unique interweaving of all three authors’ voices, A Sliver of Light tells their story of psychological and physical torment, as well as of the powerful bonds created between the hikers, their fellow prisoners, and even some of their captors.
