This is a very handy little book for all students of music and also for professionals, who come across unusual terms in the course of their work. This book is well laid out and fits comfortably in a pocket or the palm of your hand.

Frere-Jones characterizes Carey as a master practitioner, crediting Carey's "Vision of Love" as the "Magna Carta of melisma". But no, "R&B", "Blues", or even "spirituals", are not here. What is here is a trove of descriptions of sound and instruments which remain as current as the immortal Carey.… (lisätietoja)

Oh how I hated these when I was a child, but they really are excellent exercises.
