A snowbound delight

When I think about romances where characters are snowed in, I always assume we’re talking about wooden chalets with only one bed and freak snow storms that come out of nowhere. Not so with this book. Here we have a beautiful but cold and somewhat austere castle in the European country of Lasserno - a country that is not unused to heavy snows. There are LOTS of beds in the castle and our heroine is something of an invited guest when the snow sets in. It might not be what I expected but I was quickly all-in. Let the snow, love and shenanigans begin!

From our first meeting with Lucy, I liked her immensely. She was relatable and a good blend of strength and vulnerability. Oh, and she was just the perfect foil for Stefano who I also loved. While he was deliciously grumpy and at times standoffish, I admit that I was delighted that he fell fast and hard for Lucy. He was a little bit unsure and very much in need of the love of a good woman. I felt that Lucy and Stefano made the ideal pairing - they were perfect for each other.

With such a good connection, it’s hardly a surprise that the sexual chemistry between our pair was smouldering. It was never gratuitous but it was hot, swoonworthy and just added to those lovely butterflies swarming around Lucy and Stefano whenever they were together.

The storyline about the heirloom and the what, where and why of it, added another dimension to the story and I was interested to read about it. It never overtook the story and I believed that it could cause the fallout that it eventually did. But I could also very much believe that our characters easily came to regret their hasty and harsh words.

Which brings me to the HEA, which I adored. It was just the right amount of longing, grovelling and sighing.

Throughout the book, Stefan is attempting to right wrongs he has done to the Crown Prince of Lasserno. After reading this story, I went to find out whether the prince had been featured in an earlier book and he has! Crown Prince Alessio met his own match in an earlier Ms Anthony novel - Off-Limits To The Crown Prince. The books are completely standalone - but since reading this book I’ve gone out and purchased that previous story.

Since I quickly purchased another book by this author, it’s not surprise that I really loved Kali Anthony’s writing style. It was fast, fresh and very atmospheric. I felt the emotion coming though and really loved the multi-layered characters and the journey to their happily ever after. This is a great book to read while snuggled up on the cold winter nights, or just to introduce yourself to Kali Anthony. I’m thrilled to have read this delightful book. 5 stars.… (lisätietoja)
