Gothic horror in space. On a long-dead world, a dead civilization has left behind its sad remains — ruins, artifacts, ghosts, and perhaps a curse or two. Around this desolate planet orbits a haunted spaceship. What happens when a snazzy corporate ship arrives, its profit-driven mission to stake a claim for mining rights? Captain Janet Hollander has decisions to make that will determine the future of her career and the fate of her crew, choices that will draw on all her resources, on her survival instincts and on her sense of honor.… (lisätietoja)

I just finished reading The Mystic Witch by Mark All. It is a paranormal romance book (with emphasis on romance). Bailey Campbell has ignored her talents since she was eight years old and her father was murdered by Bern Emmerich. Her grandmother (Eileen) passed away a week ago and left an unusual will. Bailey is in her office late when she hears glass shattering. Bailey goes to check it out and finds weird faceless creatures and they are after her.

Bailey runs to her friend, Bob's house (who has no magic or the ability to help her). When the faceless creatures attack Bob’s house, they leave in a car. Now they have driverless vans herding them down the highway towards her grandmother’s (now Bailey’s) house. Frank Demming has been watching Bailey for ten years at the request of Eileen. He is waiting for the right moment to talk to Bailey and help her (I think he waited a little too long). Bailey and Bob arrive at her grandmother’s home and hurry inside. Bailey is led to a book left to her by her grandmother. The book tells Bailey that she has to control her temper and anger in order to use her powers properly and defeat Bern Emmerich. Bailey (when she was eight) trapped Emmerich in a space where he could do no harm. Bailey’s grandmother kept him trapped all these years with her powers. Now that her grandmother is dead, her power/control is slowly receding and Emmerich is coming out.

Bailey with the help of Frank, Bob, and Tim (Bob’s partner) must defeat Emmerich and accept her powers. Mystic Witch has an unusual take on magic. There is a lot of physics talk (I am sorry to say it gave me a migraine) along with Bailey and Frank flirting as they fight for their lives. I give Mystic Witch 2 out of 5 stars. The description I read of this book made it sound very interesting and unique, but, in reality, this was a hard book to read. It got to the point I hoped the main characters would get killed off. I got tired of Bailey and her anger management issues (and her negativity).

I received a copy of Mystic Witch from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. The review and opinions expressed are strictly my own.

The Spellcaster’s Grimoire by Mark All is a paranormal romance book. Maynard, Georgia was founded by witches over 200 years ago. It was built on a crystal that the witches draw on for their power. Patricia “Trish” Sinclair is thirty-seven years old and has written two books. Trish has used her mother’s grimoire as well as spells from other witches for her two books called The Spellcaster’s Grimoire I and II. Trish has run out of material for her third book and does not know what she will do. She casts a spell for inspiration when Benton Moorcraft comes to her with a knife sticking out of his back. Trish put information in her last book about the crystal and the coven’s grimoire and now Kate Cavanaugh wants it. Benton is the Keeper of the Grimoire and refused to tell its location to Kate (so she stabbed him with the Knife of Truth). With his dying breath Benton tells Trish to get help from Aidan McCarthy to get past the wards on his house to find the grimoire. Benton makes Trish to new keeper or guardian of the book.

Trish then hears banging on her front door. Kate has arrived and Trish had better get going. Instead of heading to Aidan’s house for help, Trish goes to Sondra Patton who has wanted to be the leader of the coven for a long time. Sondra is home along with two of her friends and fellow witches, Gay Nordan and Nancy Cotswold. Trish is a witch but she never really learned how to use her talents (when she did not get something the first time, she would give up). Trish’s mother was a good witch who used her powers to help and heal people. Instead of helping Trish, Sondra gives her the help of newbie witch, Rain Devereaux (how is that helpful). Then Sondra and friends go off to choir practice. Do they not realize that if Kate steals the book and the power from the stone, that Sondra and friends will be powerless (as well as age rapidly. They have been using the stone to keep themselves living).

Trish, Rain, and a reluctant Aidan go off to find the grimoire and stop Kate. Their adventure goes on throughout the whole book. Of course, let us not forget the arguing between Kate and Aidan because of sexual tension between them and then the kissing (did they forget about the grimoire and stone). The Spellcaster’s Grimoire started off good but went downhill quickly. The book focused more on romance than paranormal activities. I give The Spellcaster’s Grimoire 2.75 out of 5 stars.

Trish, an author of magical spell books just wanted to have purpose in her life. She found herself with a purpose and a job to do when Benton, a warlock, came to her home bleeding and dying from a stab wound to the back. Benton was running from the evil witch, Kate. With his dying breath he told Trish to guard the grimoire and save the town from being destroyed. With the help of the sexy warlock, Aiden and the new, young witch, Rain, they set out to save the witch coven and keep the secrets of the town hidden in the grimoire.

The Spellcastor’s Grimoire was a book about finding faith in yourself and finding love and friendship where you least expect it. I enjoyed the book and would recommend to the paranormal/witch lovers out there.
