I promised to review The Sky is the Limit. I’ve put it off so long I’m embarrassed. Can you tell I am finding this hard? The book should be right up my alley—a topic I care about and matters I have some expertise in. And right in the title it says it’s “brief and easy”.

For a book, 134 pages could be called brief. But reading this 134-page persuasive essay, the eyes glaze, one keeps hoping the point will be made soon. And easy? Well, it’s not written for technical experts. It is well organized, overall, so the structure is easy to follow. But after a few pages, it wasn’t easy to force myself to actually pick it up and get through it. There was only that promise goading me to struggle on to the end.

I wish I can say better things about The Sky is the Limit since I agree with many points made, if not how they are made. And I admire the author’s aim to empower us ordinary folks to fix a problem and make the world better. But, I agreed to review this book not the issue of climate change or whether the author’s heart is in the right place. So, I am sorry to have to say this book is not well written nor well argued. There are errors of logic or fact every few pages. I got so tired of marking the instances of incorrectly drawn conclusions, confusion of correlation with cause-and-effect, assertion of unsupported conclusions, conclusions drawn from false premises, and other errors that I quit noting them after the first half of the book.

The author tells us up front that he is not an expert. OK. But that doesn’t relieve him of the obligations of an author to deliver a well-written and well-argued work. This work does not deliver. While I wish Mr. Albertson luck with that fixing the world thing, I have to tell prospective readers interested in climate change to pass this book by.

The author states the case for Climate Change convincingly. The tone isn't that of an extremist, all the pertinent information is exhibited in a way that you don't feel like you're talked down to if science wasn't your forte. Some of the graphs are suppose to be in color and are printed in black and white, I take it mistakenly since the text made references to how the Temperature Anomalies graph is suppose to indicate the information in red.

The last part of the book where the Author discuses how things are getting done by participation by the residence of "Biotown" would make an interesting expanded sequel.… (lisätietoja)

After reading this book, I still haven't made up my mind on how much Global Warming, or as the book calls it Climate Change will affect my life. While the book does a good job in trying to convince me that Climate Change should be number one in my priorities, I still think the economy right now is more important.

While I don't necessarily agree with what the author is presenting, he still portrayed his opinion by showing the audience various graphs, figures, and anomalies that have taken place throughout the course of history. Reading things that I don't always agree with allows me to ponder on the notion more than I would normally, and this book definitely gave me a chance to think. I haven't changed my opinion, but I did enjoy reading the book and will keep it on my shelf next to all of my other biology books.… (lisätietoja)
