Lyhyt elämäkerta: Anna Akhmatova was one of the most beloved of Russian poet-wriiters although her work was condemned and censored by the Soviet authorities. Although she had visited the West as a young woman, Anna did not try to emigrate during war, revolution, or Stalin's Great Terror, but served as a witness to the atrocities committed around her. Several of her friends and her husband were sent to the gulag to die or into exile; her son Lev was repeatedly imprisoned.

Akhmatova is objectively a really good poet and Requiem was incredibly powerful, that being saaaid I'm not sure I'm really a poetry person in general... but like yeah it's good

I'm certainly aware of the awe and esteem in which Akhmatova is held but, even with the aid of some notes at the end of the book, it was all a little too 'inside (Russia) baseball' for my taste. While there were many wonderful phrases and references, it wasn't a particularly enjoyable read; in the way that some difficult texts can be.

Mein Rußland in Gedichten Tekijä: Karl Dedecius

Dedecius, geboren 1921 in Lodz (Łódź), lernte Russisch in Stalingrad in sowjetischer Kriegsgefangenschaft 1943 - 1950. Lange Zeit in einer Lazarettbaracke gab ihm eine russische Ärztin ein Heft mit Lermontows Gedichten - nichts anderes konnte sie auftreiben. Das mühselige Entziffern und allmähliche Verstehen half ihm weiter zu leben.

Dedecius bringt hier seine Übersetzung von Gedichten acht russischer Dichter: Puschkin, Lermontow, Blok, Achmatowa, Jessenin, Majakowskij, Brodskij u. Ajgi mit Anmerkungen zu den Dichtern und Gedichten. Ich wünschte mir kürzlich weitere Majakowskij Übersetzungen D’s [https://www.librarything.com/review/211444621]; hier finde ich sie. Schade nur, dass Pasternak fehlt. Welches sind mir die liebsten Gedichte? Noch kann ich es nicht sagen; es braucht Zeit mit ihnen vertraut zu werden. (IV-22) 5*… (lisätietoja)
