Amazing story of survival (pilots down at sea) in a very short book; defines "shade of gray." ( ) A harrowing wartime account of the fate of a B-17 crew lost at sea, written by MoH recipient and WWI top ace Eddie Rickenbacker. After a navigational error forces the B-17's crew to ditch near Japanese-occupied territory in the South Pacific, Rickenbacker (carrying a classified message for General MacArthur) and the other crewmen are set adrift on flimsy life rafts. Rations were exhausted by the end of the third day, forcing the survivors to live off the ocean -- drinking rainwater and catching seagulls and fish -- until they were finally rescued after over three weeks at sea. Recommended for High School Students. short account of Rickenbacker's survival with a group of people at sea after a plane crash during the second world war (1943). survived for 21 days at sea after his B-17 bomber was ditched in the Pacific. During those 21 days, he and the airplane's crew caught fish and gulls, drank rain water, and came close to dying. This is an inspirational story, and one wonders if Eddie was around in the 1980s and 1990s, Eastern Airlines might still be flying. This is rather a dated book. Rickenbacker provides hope even in the bleakest times in the Pacific. If I had to paraphrase the message in this book is to never give up hope. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
