Even though this memoir is a touch disjointed at times, I found it to be an entertaining and witty read. Fisher goes through a whole range of emotions between the covers - nostalgia, confusion, annoyance, sarcasm, amusement - but the overall effect is highly comedic as she approaches everything with the proverbial grain of salt. I can definitely see how this book would make for an entertaining stage show, but none of Fisher's humour is lost through the format of the written word. Clearly Fisher is a talented writer, and I will certainly be picking up her other books. ( ![]() Highly entertaining and readable. It's not a big book, but there were probably half a dozen times when I literally laughed aloud. Celebrity memoir isn't my thing. In fact, this is only my fourth memoir of a Hollywood star. These memoirs all have been okay to almost good. This one is just different and over the top hilarious. I actually laugh out loud while listening. I didn't know Carrie Fisher was this funny. I just love this book! I, like seemingly everyone on GoodReads, had this on my To-Read list forever and immediately read after her passing. Carrie Fisher was a one-of-a-kind individual, a rare person able to simultaneously be multiple role models. Princess Leia was an idol of mine growing up. As an adult, that didn't change, but Carrie Fisher became a more reality-anchored role model in her own right. The book is short, quick, and conversational. Its not particularly organized, but it isn't hard to follow. Carrie has an endearing, self-deprecating, clever sense of humor that makes you feel like if you ever met her, you'd be friends. Her honesty regarding her mental health, and her advocacy for mental health, is humbling. This is a solid, interesting, and candid memoir about growing up a celebrity child and then becoming a celebrity unexpectedly from a young age. Carrie Fisher minces no words about her odd family, her own oddities, and the addictions/mental illnesses that have plagued her adult life. Well worth reading, and it might even break your heart a little. Note: Get the audiobook!!! Fisher reads it herself, and you will feel yourself mourning her loss all over again. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
Fisher comes clean (well, sort of) with the crazy truth that is her life, in her first-ever memoir. No library descriptions found. |
