Dark magic, mafia and the personal and professional life of policemen come together for an entertaining read. The creatures from hell and the supreme fight between good and evil are deliciously brought out in this book. Koontz is excellent in the good versus evil game, but the portrayal of voodoo as the cement of all religions and the insight into the branches of voodooism are worthwhile things to know, I think. It earns five stars from the incessant pounding of the plot and the combination of horror, drama, humour, and romance. This is one of Koontz' first novels, published under another name and another title back in the day, but Berkley put out this one as "Darkfall" under Koontz' name in 2007. Penny Dawson hoort dingen. Ze is elf, maar ze hoort dingen. Haar moeder is dood, maar haar vader leeft. Hij is politieman en dus vaak van huis. Hij werkt nu aan vier onopgeheldere moorden. Moorden in gesloten kamers, waarbij de lichamen bijtsporen vertonen. Jack Dawson denkt aan voodoo. Zijn partner, de rationele Rebecca Chandler, denkt dat Jack getikt is. This was a really fast read and I enjoyed the race through NYC during a raging snowstorm as they fought to keep alive against the creepy, bitey, chewy little devils. (
