This book can help young learners understand what fractions are by using pictures to demonstrate and giving you hands-on activities to try at home. I would recommend this book to elementary and middle grades students who are just started to learn about fractions or are struggling and want to try learning about fractions in a different way. ( ) In the beginning of the book, it breaks down what a fraction is. Then it went into a mini activity on how to illustrate fractions using paper plates. As the story progresses, it gets more advanced for the reader by incorporation fractions and weight. I think the intended audience would be grades 3-7. I would use this in my classroom, but I would read it in parts to avoid confusion. The book overall was quite interesting, but I didn't like the section they had about the weights of money and other objects . It would be very confusing for a young student and it doesn't elaborate how fractions can be used. The book includes a variety of examples to show what fractions are and how they can be used. It includes examples using pizza and money to show how fractions are used in everyday life. The book uses humor in the illustrations such as the boy who was upset that he only got 1/8 of the pizza instead of getting 2/8 like the girl got. The book struggled to have the plot grow naturally because the characters were only used for the sake of humor. As far as the book engaging the reader, they include an activity that the students can do using paper plates to help them learn about fractions. The end of the book will also engage the reader, because it encourages the reader to look at the world around them to find fractions in their everyday life. This could also provide the reader with a sense of wonder about what they can find in everyday life in fraction form. I was really upset with the way the book included weight. I think it took away from the fraction part of the book. This takes away from the flow of the book and it causes the reader to loose their focus and confuse them about the concept of fractions. A very cute book that introduces the concept of fractions to children. It breaks fractions down into the simplest form to where it is not overwhelming to children. This book reminds me of the book you read to us in class with the girl who had math anxiety because when I started reading this book I felt overwhelmed because I struggle with math as a college student but seeing that it broke it down into simplest form helped me. I also love that there are activities that teachers can do with their students while reading this book aloud. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
