I think maybe it was easier for me to get drawn into the story because it was told from the female perspective. I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns about two weeks ago now. I was warned that this was an intense book and they weren't wrong. I actually had to stop reading it on the way to work ... ... minute to catch up - still kept up my reading though - so things I'm just not willing to sacrifice.
