Zackary finds himself doing community service when he confesses to a prank he did not commit. He HORRIFYINGLY nearly gets assigned to working at the public library for a few hours when he stumbles upon a cute guy who works at the aquatic center and decides to weasel his way into a volunteer job there instead. The aquatic center setting was nice. Gift shop, dolphin, mild conservation talk. There was also some soccer action, but mostly just team chats. A lot of the team chat dialogue was very self-aware and un-teen-like. Maybe teenagers are evolving, idk. I loved the romance and found the relationship very sweet. The cooking stuff was nice. I loved that these boys live in a world where no one, including their parents and the jocks, questions their relationship or gives them a hard time for it. I didn't have a problem with Zack taking credit for the prank, as some readers did. I did struggle with the flimsy conflict A cute romance with some flaws. 3.5 stars Thank you to the publisher, author, and Bookish First for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. Zack is a soccer star on his high school team, loved by pretty much everyone, and he's a guy who cares a lot about other people too. Especially his team, which is why he takes the fall for his upperclassman, who executed a distasteful prank on another school. As punishment, he has to do community service and isn't allowed back on the team for a while, but there's a silver lining. By volunteering at the Marine Institute, he gets to spend time with Chip, a guy he had a meet cute with facilitated by his dog. A guy who he instantly falls for, but who thinks, along with everyone else, that he did that awful prank... Loved the progression of the story, and I loved the writing as well--the dialogue in particular. I like what the author did with the antagonist in the story as well. Also Zack and Chip were extremely cute and their relationship developed into something really special. It's exactly what I wanted out of a YA contemporary romance. I Like Me Better by Robby Weber is a sweet contemporary romance between two high-school boys- Zack, a soccer player and Chip, a seaside conservationist. It has elements of comedy and enemies-to-lovers (one of my favorite tropes of all time) as well as discussions on environmental and sealife conservation. I liked Weber’s writing style, and the characters were well-developed, entertaining, and enjoyable. I particularly liked Zack, I found him to be a great main protagonist. I also liked Zack’s love interest Chip and Foster. The plot of the novel was very well balanced with the romance- a problem I typically have with contemporaries. If you know me at all, you probably know that I’m not the biggest fan of contemporaries as I find them having an imbalance between the romance and the actual plot of the novel, or even lacking plot entirely. However, this was one of those contemporaries where I did not have this problem! This was a great mellow, summery novel. I Like Me Better is a short, fast-paced contemporary romance I highly recommend this to fans of the Heartstopper novels by Alice Oseman! All in all, I really liked this novel. 4 out of 5 stars. Let me start off saying I did win this copy of the book on BookishFirst and it did not disappoint at all. The cover is super adorable and I love the colors on it. Then the moment I started to read it, I love how sweet of YA book this became. It being a LGBT+ book about romance makes it that much more better. I know with more books becoming that way helps the everyday person. They can actually relate to the main person and I am all for that. It seems like a very likely thing to happen. A sporty romance that takes over the summer. It takes a little bit to like the main character but you do get there. And if you are a fan of a romcoms and hopping for the romance you will enjoy this novel. I typically do not go for these romances as I typically like fantasy romance over like everyday romance but it was such a fun read I am glad I gave it the chance it truly needed. So read it if you enjoy everyday romances. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
A joyful summer romance that Jason June, New York Times bestselling author of Out of the Blue, calls "Swoon-worthy!" This is not how soccer-star Zack Martin thought his summer would go. When the captain's prank means trouble for the whole squad, Zack's left with no choice but to take one for the team and cover for him. Now he's trading parties and beach days for community service at a seaside conservation center-fair enough. But thanks to his new reputation, the cute intern, Chip, won't even give him a shot. Still, Zack finds himself falling for Chip between dolphin encounters and shark costume disasters, which means he suddenly has way more on the line than he ever expected. Zack may be good at winning on the field, but can he keep up the lie without losing himself? Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |

This was a movie on paper. It had aspects of self discovery, growing up and high school drama. There were a lot of parallels to Heartstopper such as the sports aspect but still held its own as a story. I recommend this story to anyone that wants a wholesome story that explores their own identity as a teen.
I wish a could have had more of this story. I love to see a series where other characters are added to each books in a series that still is in the same universe as this couple kind of like the lovelight farms series. Additionally, I would like to see a lesbian couple as one of the couples in the series. Another idea would be to have a bi main character that explores what it means to be bi and address any misconceptions that is a coming of age novel.
