The Thirteenth Tale - the narrator of the story (a ... ... as a basis for his stories and really brings them to life. Blanche and Marie is on the new 1001 list.
I'll be adding Middlesex to my monstrous tbr pile soon;) It sounds wonderful. ... story that works its magic and draws you in despite a plot that's almost entirely revealed up-front.
Then there's Middlesex, which is just a monstrously impressive work. A huge epic, addressing war, love, growing up, sexual orientation, incest, genetics, hermaphoditism, and everything ... ... like it.
There are two that I abandoned this year, however. Eragon, which just seemed to drag on and on, and Middlesex, which I just couldn't seem to care enough about.
I tried to get into each of them a few times, but just couldn't. I'm now trying to find new homes for them. Pulitzer Winners

This book was great. It started out a little slow with all of the Greek history, but I'm Greek so it kept me interested enough. After about 100-150 pages I found myself completely engrossed in the story. I've been really busy lately and not had much time ... ... I did end up loving that book, though. Definitely in my top five for this year, probably even in the top three.
Oh, Middlesex. It's so hard to find the right words to say about it. I was very interested by it, but the ending...it just didn't quite seem to come full circle for me. In the ... 33. Middlesex - Jeffrey Eugenides ... moet er altijd een boek bij zitten dat te maken heeft met het te bezoeken land.

I think it is interesting that 4/5 of my top books are ARCs...there is some good reading ... I'm currently about 1/3 of the way through Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. It started out very slow, but I'm now starting to get more invested in the story. I haven't had much time for reading lately. Hopefully I'll be able to sit down with this for a longer period of time soon. I had a great quarter. Sort of in order:

"Emotions, in my experience, aren't covered by single words. I don't believe in 'sadness', 'joy', or 'regret.' Maybe the best proof that the language is patriarchal is that it oversimplifies feeling. I'd like to have at my disposal complicated hybrid ... Well, there certainly are books that I couldn't get through like MiddleSex and The Time Traveler's Wife but LOTR wasn't one of them. It was very well written. I loved Middlesex and bought this book after on the strength of that book. There was no mystery about how the story would end, and the despondency of the narrators throughout the ... ... I'm interested in hearing what people have to say about why they liked it and/or what the message/purpose was.
I loved Middlesex and was so shocked at how many negative feelings I had for TVS as I was reading it and now, 2-3 months later. ... no idea why these two books popped into my head as soon as I read your opening line, but I might as well give it a shot.
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides or The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen? ... much more of a downer in comparison. Eugenides is a very good writer, and I did like the book, but not as much as I liked Middlesex. As a first novel, The Virgin Suicides is impressive, however. ... Scott's love of writing, and people's love of storytelling. I think Lisey's may be on my top five this year, along with Middlesex and The Kite Runner.
I have gotten a couple stories read in Skeleton Crew, as well. I'm now in "Beachworld." Still stuck in Wrinkle and The Prince. M ... ... I made that error in my post.
TVS might be worth checking out, varielle, since you already own it. I thought Eugenides' Middlesex was brilliant.

I read this for a RL bookgroup - I must confess that if this hadn't been the case I probably wouldn't have read it this year, it wasn' ... During lunch I finished Middlesex for book club next week and started an ER book from the April Bonus Batch, The 19th Wife. I'm only about 20 pages in, but so far it seems well-written and interesting. I finally finished Storm Over Morocco. It didn't actually take forever, it just seemed like it. I'm off to go and buy some sudoko to do while listening to The Three Musketeers or one of my other audio books on ... Coming up soon (already checked out from the library) are Bonfire of the Vanities, Middlesex, Don Quixote, and Portnoy's Complaint. Already read this month are Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (really enjoyed it...very quick read) and Slow Man (conflicted about it). ... later. In January I thought it might be a good idea to begin the year by reading the oldest book in the pile. But then Middlesex caught my interest, and it is back on the shelf. Sadly, I finished Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides - I wish it could have gone on and on. This is one of the rare books where I can't stop thinking about the characters.

I loved this book. Every character felt fully developed, every observation completely right. It is truly an epic novel and well worth reading. I literally can't stop thinking about it. I even dreamed of it last night.

I did, however, give Haruki Murakami's The Elephant Vanishes short story collection full marks, and Raymond Carver's personal ... ... the The Handmaid's Tale. I read it when I was very young so I want to give it another go... Also reading Money and Middlesex. Still procrastinating... I have a paper due by the end of the week for my history class. One of my all-time favorites! I adore Vonnegut.
How about another from my all-time list: Jeffrey Eugenides's Middlesex. ... few books to add! Unfortunately this means that I will not be able to comment them as much though...
