37. A feast for crows by George R.R Martin
This series just gets better and better. And now I have to wait till September for the next one.
And, I was horrified ... I heard the rave on LT about George R Martin's A song of ice and fire series (very much justified may I add), so reserved it at the library. When I picked it up, it had this cover:
belinthesun in What Are You Reading Now? : Do you read voluminous books? Will you recommend them? (Heinä 26, 2008, 7:41pm) >19 A Song of Fire and Ice is really good. I've read the four that are out. However, some of the people that I've talked to about it didn't like it becasue it jumps around between characters a lot and sometimes a character won't seem to tie in with the story until later. This didn't bother me, ... ... longer ones I've read lately are The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan (I think the shortest is 678 pages) and A Song of Fire and Ice series by George R. R. Now I've read all the Song of Fire and Ice books so far. This one was good, but still somewhat disappointing. There's no Tyrion, Daenerys, or Bran. And I am slightly annoyed by the way Brienne is left hanging (pun intended). Oh yes, I'm with you on this one. I'm pretty disappointed that the last two of the George RR Martin Fire and Ice series went to some dull, boring dust jackets when the earlier books had some really interesting cover art. When I heard him promoting Feast of Crows, he compared magic to anchovies on pizza: he likes a little of it mixed in with a lot of other stuff, but he doesn't like a lot of it by itself. He almost made it onto my list. In fact he WOULD have, but I found A Feast for Crows a bit boring. They weren't the characters I wanted to read about. I DO really like his writing, and I subscribe to his blog for updates.

Agree that all of Hemingway, with the exception of A Movable Feast is self-conscious tripe.
I also think Charles Dickens one of the most overrated writers ever to put pen to foolscap. His plots were laughable, those ... ... Lannister, but I stopped mentally categorizing him as a "bad guy", so I'm not entirely sure he counts. Heck, by the end of A Feast for Crows, I was even starting to like Jaime Lannister. (Damn Martin and his multi-dimensional characters! :)

Shaman's Crossing by Robin Hobb Have just finished a feast for crows by George R.R. Martin, still not my favourite of the series, but the focus on Arya didn't dissapoint.
Have picked up this evening Eats, shoots and leaves by Lynne Truss and am having utter paroxysms of delight thus far. ... to start Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi (I've been on a brief Graphic Memoir binge) and then will attempt to finish a feast for crows by George R.R. Going to go pick up A Feast for Crows by George R. R. Martin from the library tomorrow.
Also listening to Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell.
