Gabrielle has been caught while trying to elope. To avoid a scandal, Felix Hood steps up and becomes engaged to her with the wedding planned for the morning. Gabrielle and Felix have been circling each other since they met. She blows hot and cold on him. He watches her closely. He is also Philip's best friend as well as a friend to Cordelia. Can Gabrielle and Felix survive their marriage? How will he handle her? Does she have enough time to get his loyalty before they must return to London?

I enjoyed this book. I was not certain I would as Gabrielle does not come across as someone I want to know in PHILIP'S RULES. However, once she marries Felix, she settles down a little. I love when he takes her home to his family's estate to honeymoon and meet his parents. His parents are delightful. I like how the story is told from both points-of-view. When you read where Gabrielle's thoughts are, I was better able to understand her and her actions. His mother understood Gabrielle from the start. She tried to tell her son, but he would not listen to her. When Felix punishes her one night for her behavior, after Arabella (her best friend) gives him a push in the right thought direction, he finally understands what the problem is. He didn't listen to her but his friend. What he saw before their marriage and what he sees after their marriage do not mesh. He needs to rethink what he was told against what he actually sees. Communication could have worked for them had they not both hidden their reasons for their attraction to each other. But fortunately, it all worked out by the end.
