I LOVE THIS SO SO SO MUCH......I think this is the best age gap book that I have ever read....The slow burn and the how luc and lily gradually fall in love with each other was just so perfect!!I smiles when they kiss for the first time. ( ) Again, the theatre mistakes this author makes drove me batty: It's not greasepaint, it's stage makeup. And considering most makeup artists love MAC Cosmetics, there's nothing making them greasy or hard to take off at all. It's not the Theatre Awards, it's the Oliviers. It's not the TV Awards, it's the BAFTAs. And since a BAFTA gets a mention later, I don't understand how this gets missed. Now that's out of my system, onto the book. I really liked it. As a director, I really appreciated all the thought that went into that dynamic - Luc being really aware of the power imbalance, Lily really not wanting to get involved because of that dynamic. Again, great supporting cast. Nice to see Richard and Lainie from Act Like It again and get an update on their lives. (Although Richard was being an ass taking her away after she wins an award - let the woman bask it in!) The relationship was very believable and I appreciated how we were given a supporting cast that with one notable exception were flawed but understandable. Except for the glaring theatre errors, I enjoyed it. But I am breathing a sigh of relief that future books in this series are moving to the screen world because I don't know how much more theatre terminology screwups I can take. Maybe I'm more sensitive to workplace dynamics than I thought. This one just didn't do it for me. I hated the set up, but was willing to give it a chance. I couldn't get a good sense of Luc-Was he aloof, tough, did he more or less give in right away? And either because of me, or because of the style, I failed to connect and engage with the book to the point where I could follow where things were happening...I didn't love the 2 plot devices. And in this case, the age gap exacerbated the yuck factor of the entire set-up for me. Their relationship was by and large unconvincing. Sure the banter was good, here and there. Yes, it was funny. But it wasn't enough somehow. They felt flung into a couple of awkward personal interactions and a mutual attraction at work and suddenly, bam, we have take off. Honestly, this would be a two star, but I really cared about what happened to the heroine. Half the time I wished I were just reading about her adventures in theater. She was an awesome heroine. Saved the whole damn book. ...it's not me, it's not you..it's us.2.5 In their business image is everything. So what happens when sparks fly between a sexy movie star and her distinguished director? I had the pleasure of reading Ms. Parker's Act Like It, a while back and fell instantly in love. Behind the drama of the West End, lies insecurities, spitefulness and entertainment. Pretty Face brings heat to the set. Arrogant director, insecure actress, volatile combination. Gossip, attraction and morality are tackled as Lily and Luc struggle through a business relationship that quickly turns personal. Will the chaotic chemistry ruin their hard earned careers? Lucy Parker has the ability to find humor in serious situations. She merges the dramatic with the eclectic to create static electricity. Copyright of Night Owl Reviews
While Lily and Luc fit one another marvelously, and their scenes were delightful, the other characters and obstacles that affected them didn’t fit together as easily. That said, just as the connection between Luc and Lily could overcome various real and perceived obstacles, their scenes and conversations were more compelling and absorbing than any other frustrations I had. Highly acclaimed, award-winning author of Act Like It Lucy Parker returns readers to the London stage with laugh-out-loud wit and plenty of drama The play's the fling It's not actress Lily Lamprey's fault that she's all curves and has the kind of voice that can fog up a camera lens. She wants to prove where her real talents lie - and that's not on a casting couch, thank you. When she hears esteemed director Luc Savage is renovating a legendary West End theater for a lofty new production, she knows it could be her chance - if only Luc wasn't so dictatorial, so bad-tempered and so incredibly sexy. Luc Savage has respect, integrity and experience. He also has it bad for Lily. He'd be willing to dismiss it as a midlife crisis, but this exasperating, irresistible woman is actually a very talented actress. Unfortunately, their romance is not only raising questions about Lily's suddenly rising career, it's threatening Luc's professional reputation. The course of true love never did run smooth. But if they're not careful, it could bring down the curtain on both their careers... This book is approximately 96, 000 words One-click with confidence.
