Lady Pippa Godfrey has suffered the most ruinous London Season. She escapes to her Somerset estate for a quiet Christmastide holiday with her family, away from society's prying eyes. But before her parents can join her, a storm crashes down on Somerset to destroy any hope of Pippa's white Christmas dream. The roads have flooded and travel is impossible, leaving her stranded and alone. But a muddied, angry and devilishly handsome lord appears at her door demanding shelter.Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox, has been summoned by his parents, the Marquis and Marchioness of Bowmont, to attend a holiday party in the wilds of the country, far from his London townhouse. He suspects they command his attendance for far different reasons than a simple country party. When a storm strands his carriage, he's forced to seek shelter at the only home for miles around, a local manor called Helton House. When Lady Pippa is reluctant to admit him, he does what he's been raised to do—demand she provide him and his servants with shelter until the storm passes. But the beautiful woman draws his interest far more than he's willing to admit. Can Lucas find a way out of the predicament his parents are planning? As Lady Pippa scrutinizes another arrogant, demanding lord, she is bombarded with memories of betrayals in her past. Can she forget those difficult life lessons to claim a Christmastide kiss from a perfect stranger?… (lisätietoja)

Historical romance has always been my genre of choice, A Kiss at Christmastide reminded me why. Anytime a reader allows themselves to get so lost that sorry is experienced when the story ends, you know you've stumbled upon a diamond. Pippa's trusting heart and beautiful soul hides many insecurities. Her vulnerability makes her an easy target for manipulative and vengeful people. When a scandal ruins her chances at a her first London Season, she enters into seclusion and shuts herself off from it all. A stranger, a snowstorm and the hands of fate may just bring her isolation to an end. Pippa and Lucas embody all the qualities I look for in a story. Ms. McKnight evokes an emotional connection with Pippa from the very beginning. Her panic, heartbreak and loneliness make her an open book and jumped right out at me. Lucas was harder to figure out but a mystery worth solving. I couldn't help but fall for this beautiful fairytale.

Stormy advent!

An engaging Christmas novella that deserved to be a full novel.
I enjoyed Lady Pippa Godfrey (and the erstwhile rake Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox).
Nothing like a dark and stormy night to set the atmosphere, impassable roads, an unwilling suitor who has to take shelter at the scorned friend's house, a sensitive misunderstood young woman betrayed by her best friend during their come out, and a dark and painful secret exposed at Christmas time to give a storyline some gravitas.
Mind you maybe Pippa should have put Lucas in the stable with the animals ( echoes of a past story) but there were plenty of rooms at the inn, err country manor, and Lucas was persuasive in his wrathful anger at the elements and then being halted by a snip of a miss. Unfortunately, the rake in Lucas gave nary a thought for the reputation of said young miss.

This is a Christmas novella that looks at friendship and families and how they can make or break a person’s life.

Lady Pippa Godfrey is a genuinely good person who has been hurt during her first season in London. One night, when her parents were visiting friends, a bad storm brings Lucas Hartfield, Earl of Maddox, to her door seeking shelter since his carriage is stuck in the mud. As is expected of her she does find a room for Lucas and space for his servants. The storm continues a few more days stranding him with Pippa for a few days. With nothing but time on their hands they get to know one another, manage a kiss under the mistletoe and then say goodbye to one another only to have her parents return, neighbors and Lucas’s parents also arrive a bit of drama ensue. Eventually there is the HEA ending for all. This a fun easy holiday story that would be a treat to read before a fire on a cold winter day. It would have made an excellent novel with more fleshing out and time involved but I enjoyed this almost love at first sight story and think you will, too.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy to read in exchange for my honest review. ( )
