Although it has a very western conquering civilization point of view, this book is good because it shows the struggles and adventure that Columbus and his sailors went through. The illustrations show the characters emotions as well as detailed images of the voyage. There is opportunity for the teacher to insert the reality of the early explorers' exploitation and arrogant attitudes into the gaps we tend to leave in our historical accounts.
