I do hope Alastair comes back to this universe, it's a rather good place to read about and after getting to the end of this trilogy it's rather clear that it's a really good place for Alastair to write lots more about. Bring it on, please, Alastair. Next up in Alastair's list is The Lobby. Bye for now. Reynolds, Alastair. Poseidon’s Wake. Poseidon’s Children No. 3. Gollancz, 2015. Poseidon’s Wake is a loose sequel to Blue Remembered Earth. It continues the saga of the Akinya family, taking the story into the distant future. We get close to the Mandela and meet the Watchmakers. We find out what happened to the uplifted elephants and the mermen. It all takes a while. It is not often that you find yourself needing—and getting—extensive world-building exposition halfway through a 600-page novel. One can see why some readers found it slow and a heavy lift, but the toboggan ride of the plot really gets going late, and the rest is enough fun to make the waiting tolerable. If you like big-idea, epic-scale space opera, you will find that the Poseidon’s Children series will satisfy. 4 stars. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

""Few SF writers merge rousing adventure with advanced futuristic technology as skillfully as Alastair Reynolds" (Toronto Star), the award-winning author of On the Steel Breeze. In the conclusion of his Poseidon's Children saga, the Akinya family receives an invitation from across the stars--and a last opportunity to redeem their name... Send Ndege... The cryptic message originated seventy light-years away from the planet Crucible, where Ndege Akinya lives under permanent house arrest for her role in the catastrophe that killed 417,000 people. Could it be from her mother, Chiku, who vanished during a space expedition decades earlier? Ndege's daughter Goma, a biologist, joins the crew of the Travertine dispatched to Gliese 163 to uncover the source behind the enigmatic message. Goma's odyssey will take her not only into the farthest reaches of space, but centuries into her family's past where the answers to the universe's greatest mysteries await.."-- Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
