Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes May 2009
27. Rachel's holiday - Marian Keyes
28. Angels - Marian Keyes
29. Firefly Lane - Kristin Hannah (book club)
30. Fourth comings - Megan McCafferty
31. The song is you - Arthur Phillips ... The book also became tiresomely preachy towards the end. Chick Lit novels can incorporate difficult issues well (see Rachel's Holiday) but this was an informational polemic and out of keeping with the rest of the book. I should really learn from bitter experience and give the genre up. Here are my top five:
Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes -- my favorite of my favorite chick lit author.
Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding -- "the" classic of the genre (of contemporary authors - Jane Austen was the original chick lit author)
Something Blue by Emily Giff ... Very tenuous linkage, but the chick-lit rehab book by Marian Keyes called Rachel's Holiday has a main character who's vegetarian.
But in this book, that is not her main concern by any means.... ... secret -- what I read when I'm stressed or over-tired. Most is horrid, but Marian Keyes is good - a few of the best are Rachel's Holiday and Lucy Sullivan is getting Married. Such a Girl by Karen Siplin is a modern African-American retelling of Mansfield Park, Sophie Kinsella is ... ... of Twilight by Robert Jordan
The Scar by China Mieville
The Other Side of the Story by Marian Keyes
Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
Voyager by Diana Gabaldon
Drums of Autumn by Diana Gabaldon
The Fiery Cross ... ... them all apart from Angels which for some reason I don't fancy, and the new one (which I can't afford!). My favourite is Rachel's Holiday. Can't include them though cos read before 2008.
Only one I was disappointed by was one I read in the US because for some reason it was translated into Am ... Rachel's Holiday by Marian Keyes
Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married by Marian Keyes
Eleanor Rigby by Douglas Coupland
Queen Camilla by Sue Townsend
Grace Notes by Bernard MacLaverty
Poppy Shakespeare by Clare Allan
Annie's New Life by Maureen Martella
Janice Gentle Gets Sexy by ... Rachel Giffin is good. She wrote Something Borrowed and a companion book Something Blue which are both fun.
Rachel's Holiday and Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married are my favorites by Marian Keyes. She's very, very funny and writes well. Marian Keyes, an Irish chick-lit writer. Best of all is Rachel's Holiday which is about the unlikely topic of a drug addict heroine in rehab - and yes, romance! Reading Arlington Park by Rachel Cusk. Interested as it it's on an Orange Prize shortlist and found it accidentally in Charing Cross Road for £3 - thereby satisfying my literary credentials as well as my pocket. ... standard Ashkenazi recipe, I'll most often reach for Joan Nathan's standard Jewish Holiday Kitchen (now published as Joan Nathan's Jewish Holiday Cookbook. My friend Jane, who is a fabulous baker in her own right, is passionate about Marcy Goldman's A Treasury of Jewish Holiday Baking ... ... I couldn't resist
The People with the Dogs by Christina Stead
An Unsocial Socialist by Bernard Shaw and
The Holiday by Stevie Smith
and then a copy of Stendhal's The Charterhouse of Parma, which I've been meaning to read for a while.
My flat isn't getting ...
