In this novel, it teaches the true meaning of being different is okay, especially when you're only a child. August our main character is only ten years old and is faced with the challenge of having a facial disorder that makes him look different from others and all he wants is to feel like he belongs. August uses the imagination of being an astronaut and his curiosity in being different to tell his story and how he overcomes many obstacles with the help of his loving mother. "This book is about August Pullman, he is going into middle school, and has never been to real school because, he had a genetic mutation that led to him having some facial disfigurements. This story tracks his time through his first year of school, with all of the changes and things he goes through as a young kid dealing with not being the normal. I think it would be a great book for older elementary or young middle school kids. This amazing book shows Auggie's life living with a disability. He is new to school and experiences bullying. It shows readers the reality behind being different than your peers. In the end, the message of the book is amazing. No matter our appearance, we are all just humans. I would recommend this to middle schools students because of the real life lessons they could get from this. Great middle school book!! Great life lesson and classroom application on class community and how to treat others. Young boy with a facial difference from his peers is bullied a lot in school, but everyone learns some great lesson about how no matter what we look like on the outside on the inside we are all just people.
