I loved this book as a youngster. I read it's sequels as well. I don't think I was worrying about whether it was great literature, and since I don't have it now, I can't say. But it moved me, made me wonder and long for the northwoods, made me love that half-wild dog. Great stuff. ( )

I read and loved this book as a child. Silver Chief was 1/2 Siberian husky and 1/2 wolf. Little did I know then that as a senior, I would be rescuing Siberian huskies! I got this copy just a few years ago from an out-of-print bookstore in Houston, TX.

This was one of my favorite books as a kid. It is the first book of a series - I have most of them now, as ex-library copies. These books were like junior Jack London. I wonder if today's children would appreciate these books? Stories of the wild north may not satisfy the children who have been fed a diet of witches and warlocks. Not that there is anything wrong with that. ( )
