I just read The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope. It was wonderful! I just read and reviewed The Sherwood Ring by Elizabeth Marie Pope, and it's a splendid historical fantastical romance. It's a YA book. I really enjoyed it. #17, I've only read The Perilous Gard but I absolutely loved it and am eagerly seeking a copy of The Sherwood Ring. What a great story, and great writing! I second your recommendation.
Here are two that I like, by Elizabeth Marie Pope: The Sherwood Ring and The Perilous Gard; the latter is a lovely Elizabethan riff on the Tamlin story. Neither seems particularly well known. I loved Peaceable Sherwood from The Sherwood Ring not a lot of people have heard of that book, so it's nice to meet someone who loves him too. ... I especially liked the invented mythology, and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
For you I recommend The Sherwood Ring, an older Newbery Honor book by Elizabeth Marie Pope. She was a professor of mine in college, and she was a complex, not entirely lovable character ... I see a few new names here, but lots of favorites. If you liked Perilous Gard you'd love The Sherwood Ring, also by Elizabeth Marie Pope.
