The Add Books page is the place to add books to your LibraryThing library. Books can be added from library and bookstore sources, by manually adding the information about the book, or by uploading a file containing ISBN numbers. This page has a left column which allows you to specify what books to add to your library and a right column which shows you what you are adding or have added.

Contents

[edit] Left column

[edit] Search

Enter information about your book to search for it in a library or bookstore source. You can narrow the results by including additional information such as author or publisher. Additional tips on adding books can be found in the LibraryThing adding and importing books FAQ.

[edit] Tags to add (optional)

Tags to be added with the book. When you add the book to your library, these tags will be added with the book. The tags in their field remain when you do a new search so that you can add books with the same tags without having to re-enter the tags each time. The tagging FAQ covers tags in more detail.

[edit] Search what?

Choose what library or bookstore to search for your book. To add or change your source, click the link "choose from 252 other sources around the world" and a list will come up in the right column of the page. Book sources must meet these requirements in order for LibraryThing to work with them.

[edit] Other ways to add

[edit] Advanced options

Advanced options allow you to skip confirmation when adding books by ISBN or barcodes to speed adding books to your library. If you're adding books from Borders, there is an option here to recognize Borders product codes.

[edit] add the book manually

Takes you to the manual entry page where you can enter all the information about your book.

[edit] import books

Takes you to the import books page where you can upload a file containing ISBNs to be added to your library.

[edit] Right column

[edit] Recently added books

Shows all of the books you've added recently. You can edit the tags for the books in this list; clicking on the "edit" link will expand a text box below the book listing. If you want to edit more of the details for a book, clicking on the pencil icon will take you to the edit work page. Clicking on the red X will delete a book from your catalog.

If you've added a book with a duplicate ISBN to one already in your catalog, a small warning will appear in the book listing. This can sometimes happen if you refresh the Add Books page while it's processing a new "add". If you really have more than one copy of a book, ignore the warning; otherwise, simply delete the book using the red X.

When you search for a book, this changes to display the results of the search, as described below.

[edit] search elsewhere

This link lets you change the source for your search.

[edit] Results from source (number of results)

All the books that match your search are displayed here, ten at a time. If your search returns multiple copies of the same book, you can click the black triangle next to each title to see any additional details available from the source such as ISBN or publisher. Click on the title of the book to add it to your library.
