Dear LibraryThing member MEMBERNAME,

December is here and, with the snow, your monthly update.

Contents

[edit] Early Reviewer Books

The December batch of free Early Reviewer books is up.

See the list of free books here: http://www.librarything.com/er/list

The December batch is large and diverse. As one member put it:

"This is the most interesting batch so far ... Honestly, I have never been so impressed with LT and the places you guys have taken it--you have gotten a bunch of publishing houses to give us a bunch of free books, just because they can see how serious we are about reading and reviewing. Thank you!"

You have until Saturday, December 15th at noon EST to request copies of these books. Most books are available to residents of the US and Canada; some are available to residents of the US and Israel.

[edit] Improved Cataloging

We just introduced a series of improvements to the cataloging side of things, starting with new detail and edit pages. The system now does right by multiple authors and author "roles" (Illustrator, Translator, etc.).

[edit] New Libraries

After revamping all our library code, we've been adding libraries, country-by-country. We now have 28 Australian, 25 Danish, 6 Norwegian, 5 Swedish and six in New Zealand. We've added only one Israeli source, the Israel Union List, but it includes data from over 170 public and private libraries around the country. This makes Hebrew-language cataloging possible on the web for the first time.

By New Years, we will have almost 700 libraries. Among these will be many outside of English-speaking countries, and books in non-Latin scripts, such as Arabic, Korean and Armenian.

[edit] New Languages

We're also introducing new languages, including Hebrew, which debuted today (il.LibraryThing.com). We're looking for members to help us translate the site into this and other languages.

Details here: http://www.librarything.com/about-translation

[edit] New Fields

We released two new fields--the first for the number of copies of a book, and the second is the much-anticipated "private comments" field. Many more are coming soon.

[edit] We can't shut up

We are going to send out TWO emails in December. We have some fun Holiday news, so hold onto your hats!

Thanks for reading this and, as always, let us know what you think. Post your comments in Talk or email any of us--any time--with questions, comments, ideas, suggestions.
