I am starting on Admiral Preble's library. It is now housed at the Navy Department Library
http://www.history.navy.mil/library/spec.... His service included tours in the Second Seminole War, China, Mexican War, Perry's Expedition to Japan and Civil War--Mobile Bay and South Atlantic Blockading Squadron. After retirement, he devoted himself to Naval History.
Send me the particulars when you get a chance, so I can add him to the lists.
I know this has been covered before, but I cannot find the answer. How are bound tracts handled? Thanks for the info.
Do you know the contents? If so, add each title with a note in Comments regarding what it's bound with. If you don't know the contents, add a single record noting the volume and whatever it is you know about it.
Thanks, fortunately it does list the individual tracts.
A particularly interesting volume turned up. Preble's copy of his own book, History Of The Flag Of The United States Of America, And Of The Naval And Yacht-Club Signals, Seals, And Arms, And Principal National Songs Of The United States, With A Chronicle Of The Symbols, Standards, Banners, And Flags Of Ancient And Modern Nations, wound up in the library of Admiral Furlong. This copy sustained water damage when it went down with the Admiral's ship the USS Oglala at Pearl Harbor. It was subsequently recovered and restored then later donated to the Navy Department library and reunited with the rest of Admiral Preble's library.
