Who Here Uses TinyCat to Track Their Own Books and Show Off their Private Libraries??

So...I stumbled upon TinyCat and loved that it was visual, simple, and beautiful ad you get a page to show off your library online. I am a Shelfari refugee and I don't like Goodreads too much (too ugly, too bent on social networking, etc)...so I signed up here to build my own pretty little TinyCat library cause I wanted a visual library. However I feel a little weird cause I'm sure people actually use LIbraryThing and TinyCat to .... lend books to people I guess?

I suppose the "lending" features will come in handy once I have to lend out my books or someone asks to borrow! But otherwise I won't really be using it. Maybe I'll "self-check out."

Does anyone else dot his? lol

I do! I enjoy showing off my library to others via a link to TinyCat, and it has been a useful way to track when I've lent books to friends. Occasionally when I've had friends house-sit, I have given them the link to TinyCat as a way to navigate my 2,200+ volumes if they're looking for something to read. (More user-friendly than a link to LibraryThing itself.)

And I think the "self checkout" is a great idea, too--I haven't done that myself, but I've thought about it as a way to keep track of what's on my nightstand versus what's on my shelves.

I suspect that more people use LT to keep track of their library for themselves and/or keep from buying duplicates than to lend books out. I can't be the only one whose Profile looks like I expect to lend books out, but while it sounds good in theory, it doesn't actually happen in practice.

I use it for both my own inventory and to lend books. I'm a high school social science teacher and I have the TinyCat link posted on my class learning management sites so when kids are doing research they can search my collection as well as the school library. If a student needs something, I check it out just like a library would. Much easier to track than writing names on a legal pad as I used to do!

When we started offering books in a glass case in an antique mall, I made a simple web page to show a photo of the case and I wanted to give an idea of some of the other books we had available (no prices yet). I scanned the modern books with barcodes into a separate LT account. Then I added the TinyCat to the web page. it has not made a single sale but it does make a random slideshow of covers.

Keeline books for sale.

If I spent more time I could add price and information on older books which would be more interesting. Our specialty is vintage juvenile series books.
