My rating system takes for granted the fact that I think they are very good and want to keep them always. My stars system denotes how easily I would let a book go. Many stars and you know I wouldn't let them go without a fight. Low stars and I might use them to barter with.
Books have always been fantastic to me. Besides the books you seek out deliberately, I think books come to you like presents, set out, for you to find. Once I did not pick a book up that, I believe, was set out for me. I have regretted it often but am comforted by the thought that someone else had probably stumbled on to it and been changed the way I would have been. A little silly perhaps but...
