How you doing?
Thanks Weener! You named that book. (Here on Earth) My son's girlfriend had been asking me about this book that she read. She liked it pretty well and wanted to re-read it. Just so happens I had it in a stack of hardbacks that I was getting ready to donate! Thanks for your help.

"These last few remind me of one I got over the phone: someone called to ask if we had public e-mail addresses that that things could be sent to, so if someone didn't have an e-mail address but needed to receive something through e-mail, they could get it sent to this address and pick it up at the library.

As if any ol' schlub couldn't get an e-mail address for free in two minutes..."

This is your post from the humorous library requests (which I'm just now reading). Part of my responsibilities at our library is to help patrons with learning to use the computer. I often get older folks, who, bless their hearts, are trying to move out of the 19th century into the 21st. It's really something to see 80 year old patrons try to learn the computer concepts we take for granted. Usually, they try to draw upon their own past to make reference.

It occurs to me that your caller was thinking of the post office's mailbox address "general delivery" often used in cities and small towns in the past. Transients could receive their mail by going to the post office and giving their name. The postal workers would look in the general delivery mail box for their letters.

Knowing little of the computer and such things as hotmail and the others. I'm sure your caller made the leap to the concept of general delivery.
Thanks for the recommendations. I look forward to learning more about these books.

Beth
Hi

I'm interested in reading more Chicano fiction and non-fiction and I saw in one of your posts that you enjoy reading these books. Do you have any recommendations? I'm especially drawn to books about the immigrant experience as I tutor ESL students, primarily from Mexico.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Beth
