Tietoja minusta I am an avid reader from the Boston area, I enjoy vocal jazz music and I love animals. Currently job hunting in between books...lol...

Tietoja kirjastostani I'm not a book snob, I read broadly and have a tendency to grab anything by an author I like without reservation.
I am also on Bookmooch and anything I have available for mooching will have the tag 'available' in my LT library.

Oh! Guns, Germs, and Steel. Been wanting to pick up that one. :)
Hey Mary -

Tell me how that Foucault is after you read it.

I've been thinking about picking it up.

... and have a happy holiday! :)
Thanks for your friendship! I look forward to checking out your books and hope you enjoy mine.
I also see you have Cleland's "Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure". How was that? I was planning on making that my next purchase. That, or The Collected Works of Goethe Vol. 11 containing The Sorrows of Young Werther, Elective Affinities, And Novella. I haven't even read Faust yet which I hear is a difficult read, but his prose is maybe easier to handle... Hmmm. Cleland or Goethe, Cleland or Goethe...

When I was younger (about 13 probably) I used to think Goethe was pronounced go-eth hahaha
Hi Mary!

I have been wanting to read Dostoevsky and my professor recommended "Notes from Underground" to start so I picked it up this weekend. Do you believe I made a wise decision?

I picked up Lady CHatterly's Lover last week as well.

I just completed The Time Traveler's Wife a few days back and it blew me away! =) How'd you like it?

I'm going to try and read fifty books by 9/15/2008... I believe I'm on #13 or #14 right now (Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson)

Hope all is well. We're having some crazy fires here in California.

Regards,

Douglas
PS thanks for inviting me to be your friend..Polly
My word, I can't believe the number of books you have catalogued, I feel like a baby in the book world, don't think I'll ever catch up. I love looking at lists of books. A.S.Byatt is one of my favorites also and I hear she has a new book out but don't know the name of it.
I usually buy paperbacks, used, or borrow from the library since I am no longer working. I like having my own so I can mark in them if I feel like it. When I was in college they didn't have too many paperbacks and I bought a lot of classics and reference books. Will check out bookmooch, thanks for the info. Polly (pjjackson)
Hi Mary - thought I'd drop you a quick hello. I noticed on BookMooch that we're after the same book - Last Night I Dreamed Of Peace. I was just curious, where did you hear about it? I hear segments of it read on NPR and they were so poetic that I wanted to read it for myself. Hope you're doing okay!
Thanks for your comment, we definitely share a lot of books in common (from the little I've already put online). I'm a big fan of Jewish legends and Prague, so the golem is a natural...
hey, we share a classic... right on!
The Recommendation system was fun to do, but I'm thinking I wasn't quite up to the ask. I was taking a very simple - stupid, really - approach to the problem. I'm sure there are more clever ways to do it without crashing servers.

What comes to time, all it takes is prioritizing. Not working fulltime is a big help, too. I'm a stay-at-home dad and my wife's also home for now, so there's time for reading and writing blogs if you take it. It's a priority for me, really - I don't watch TV, for example, just a single episode of some show or other from DVD each day with my wife.

We share quite a few books, but not many favourite authors... I've been meaning to read Solzenitsyn's Arhipelag Gulag for a while now, but it's never in the library when I look for it...
Hi Mary, I'm not on here often but I do keep my library updated, mostly. :) Nice to see you. Be well, Cora
Hi Mary, welcome to my list of friends. You are the first by the way. I also have a membership in BookCrossing, FrugalReader and PaperBackSwap if you are any of those. I like having you as my friend. Thank you for being my long distance friend. I still have to get all of my BookMooch books listed on here. I will be glad when my cue cat arrives. Will make doing these things a lot easier. Although when I put them in BookMooch, I put them in here now too.
Snoop away, but I see we share a great many...

Ty for stopping by Mary. I'm still learning how things work around here, I am entirely cyber-stupid. I'm working on making a link and you're my guines pig. :) Please delete my nonsense if this still doesn't work.
Hello, we have quite a few books in common, 142.

I have a modest lit blog at http://www.opendiary.com/entrylist.asp?a...

I like recommendations of really good contemporary literature. Stop by some time when you're not busy reading. :)
Hey Mary! Just stopping by to say Hello....
got me doing it now! I am chasing all who have bookmooch or mooch in their tags
Hey Mary! I did sign up for early reviewers. Had a form letter from Tim saying I wasn't selected. Bummer. But I'm glad to hear you had better luck!
Hey Mary! Just a note to see how you and Tobie are doing...
I also have yet to read Confederacy of Dunces. I buy books faster then I can read all of them it seems. Hesse is indeed great.I had to special order the Marcus Garvey. My interest in Pan-Africanism, Civil Rights, and the Rastafari movement led me to buy that. I will check out BookMooch. Seems promising.
Wow you actually have "As Hot as It Was You Ought to Thank Me"... we share a number of other books, but that was surprising
Hey lady! You've been busy, I just answered your two emails and then saw your LT comment. I wish I could access my personal email from work but they filter it, so I only get email at night. Thankfully LT comes through or I'd die of boredom.
If you see something interesting on BM let me know. I've been to the post office twice in four days. The postmaster is starting to recognize me!
